“Price-performance disappointing - also problematic handling of the coral reef”
The staff was consistently friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The bungalows and the pool area are attractively designed and overall give a well-maintained and beautiful impression. Particularly noteworthy is the freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast. It was actually the only freshly squeezed orange juice we had during our entire trip to Indonesia - from Java to Borneo and Lombok to Gili Air. That was definitely a highlight. The proximity to the beach is also very pleasant and convenient.
Price-performance disappointing - also problematic handling of the coral reef The price-performance ratio is not right for me at all. For this price, you can already get stays in 5-star hotels in Indonesia. The price seems more like a European price level than a reasonable price for Indonesia. There were multiple failures of the water pump. This led, for example, to suddenly being completely soaped up and without water under the shower. This is not acceptable given the price and the standard of the accommodation. Also, the breakfast was very limited for the price. It is served à la carte, but especially with the fruit, extreme savings are made: For two people, there were only two pieces of pineapple, two pieces of watermelon, and two pieces of papaya in total. The omelette came with toast, but there was only butter for the toast and no other toppings. In my opinion, you can expect much more for the price. What bothered me much more, however, concerns the handling of the coral reef around Gili Air. The hotel instructs its guests at the beginning and mentions the best places to see turtles. It is conveyed that access to deeper water is possible without any problems. However, from my point of view, a very crucial piece of information is missing here: Many tourists walk directly over the coral reef at low tide to reach the turtles. In doing so, the already heavily damaged corals are further broken and destroyed. Especially an accommodation that specifically sends its guests to these snorkeling spots should, in my opinion, clearly state that one should never stand on or walk over corals, as this damages or kills them.
