We didn't even stay and did not check in, as we were afraid of illegal business practices that would not be tolerated in my country, Germany. I do not support illegal business and corruption.
1. The actual name of the apartment is Taman Anggrek Residence, not West Jakarta Oasis. 2. When we arrived in Jakarta, we texted the host, who then requested our WhatsApp number. Indonesia has the second-largest number of WhatsApp users in the world, and they tend to use it for everything. However, they are not fully aware of data breach risks. If you're comfortable giving your private number to random people who might store it without any oversight, you are more than welcome to be his guest!! 3. We prefer to communicate through Booking.com’s chat. Here’s what happened: The host informed us that there had been maintenance in the apartment and that there might still be some issues with the room. If that’s the case, why didn’t you inform the guests in advance? 4. The host warned us to pretend to be his friends while staying at his property. This behaviour raises red flags. We’ve stayed in holiday apartments before, but we’ve never been asked to act as someone’s friend and avoid reception. Being put in a position where you feel anxious about possibly being discovered as an unauthorized guest is unsettling. You shouldn't have to feel unsafe, pretending and hiding during your stay. My advice is, if you want to avoid anxiety during your stay and don’t want to share your private number and risk receiving calls and texts from scammers, it's wise to choose a different property than one supporting illegal business. Although our booking was non-refundable, we raised our concerns with Booking.com, and they compensated us. We requested a refund from the owner due to the issues we encountered, but he offered us nothing other than boasting about his good ratings on Booking.com from other guests previously stayed at his place pretending to be his friends

Really great value stay in Jakarta for a few nights. The apartment is in a complex of six buildings that all have access to shared swimming pools and gym. The building also has a skywalk that connects to a shopping mall, and a small convenience shop in the basement. Apartment was small but had everything you need for a few days stay, hot water, WiFi, kettle, fridge and hob to cook with saucepans, mugs and plates
It would be really great to receive more communication before arrival as we felt bad for contacting the host most days with a new question! For example to use the gym, you need to pre book a time and the host is the only one to do this. There is also electricity issues with the flat so you can’t cook and use the air con, which resulted in the whole flat losing power! Again, if we knew this before it wouldn’t have been an issue. Overall, really good stay though!
